twin towers
Like everyone, I was transfixed, watching this terrible, powerful moment in history unfolding in realtime.
I was haunted by the image of people throwing themselves off the Towers rather than being burnt alive.
On the Friday I observed the silence. I had laid out some photos from when we were in the Twin Towers in the 80s. There was one in particular, taken from the viewing gallery at the top. You could see the shadows of the Twin Towers cast over the blocks below. It was already a ghostly picture. I found myself writing a string piece. It came very quickly. In a few hours. It was pretty much complete by the end of the afternoon and I fixed one bit on the following Monday.
For the second anniversary of 9-11 John Brunning interviewed me and premiered the piece on his programme on Classic FM.
